On February 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Alain Berset within the framework of his participation in the Munich Security Conference.
Axar.az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that during the meeting, views were exchanged on the issues on the agenda between Azerbaijan and the CoE.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that since our country acceded to the CoE, there has been beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the CoE in the areas of rule of law, human rights, and democracy, but the bias shown against our country by various institutions of the Council in recent times has undermined our cooperation.
In particular, it was brought to our attention that the failure to approve the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation by the CoE Parliamentary Assembly last year was disappointing as an indicator of the attitude and discrimination against our country.
It was stated that such steps undermine mutual contacts and relations by closing existing channels of dialogue.
The meeting also discussed current issues on the agenda and areas of mutual interest.
