Suppose the Armenian side is truly interested in opening communications in the region. In that case, it should not shirk its obligations and take practical steps towards opening communications per the region's new realities.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Aykhan Hajizada in response to a question from local media regarding the Armenian Prime Minister's article on communications published in the "Armenpress" news agency.
"It is well known to everyone that Armenia, which has occupied the internationally recognized sovereign territories of Azerbaijan for nearly 30 years and caused the blockade of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, has not made a positive contribution to the real negotiation process on opening communications in the four years following the 44-day Patriotic War.
Although Armenia knows that it has written and signed obligations regarding the opening of communications connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, it has not fulfilled them so far.
"In general, Armenia's proposals on essentially irrelevant, difficult to implement, and practically lengthy routes aim to distract attention from the process and its obligations," the Foreign Ministry official said.
