There’s no reason for an escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Axar.az informs citing Armenpress, this was stated by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, in a conversation with journalists.
At the same time Simonyan said there is a risk of escalation.
“There is a risk of escalation, but I think there is no and should be no reason and occasion for escalation,” the Speaker said.
He also recalled that Armenia has repeatedly stated that it has no territorial claims, strictly adheres to its commitments and agreements, and will continue to work consistently on resolving all outstanding issues.
“We must always do everything for there not to be such occasion or reason,” he noted.
Simoyan also stated that events are developing so quickly that there may be very interesting developments in the coming days.
It should be noted that A. Simonyan did not clarify what exactly he meant when he said, “There may be very interesting developments in the coming days.”
Moreover, the announcement of a escalation from Yerevan at this moment is ambiguous. This is because Azerbaijan is not showing any activity on the border and remains committed to the peace process. Meanwhile, Armenia is building new positions in Zangezur and carrying out engineering and fortification work.
