China has announced retaliatory tariffs of 84% on U.S. imports, mirroring President Trump's newly imposed 104% tariffs on Chinese goods, marking the latest and sharpest escalation in the ongoing U.S.-China trade war.
Axar.az reports that China's move raises its tariff rate by 50 percentage points, signaling a strong tit-for-tat response.
Alongside the tariffs, Beijing has introduced export controls on 12 U.S. companies and expanded its “unreliable entity list", targeting firms banned from trade and investment in China.
China also filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization and reiterated through state media that it remains open to dialogue — but only on the basis of mutual respect and equality. The Chinese government asserts that it does not seek a trade war but will firmly defend its interests.
