President Trump's aggressive tariffs on Chinese goods have severely damaged US-China relations, making a near-term meeting with President Xi Jinping highly unlikely.
Axar.az, citing Economic Times, reports that the escalating trade war, with the US imposing up to 245% tariffs and China retaliating with 125%, has also stalled cooperation on global issues like climate change and opioid control.
Analysts describe relations as being in a state of "economic war," with Trump’s confrontational style and rhetoric shutting down backchannel diplomacy.
Though a summit is not ruled out, any talks would require behind-the-scenes negotiation and mutual face-saving measures.
