Ilham Aliyev used the Russian language during negotiations with Xi Jinping because the Chinese leader understands Russian.

Axar.az reports Russian political scientist Sergey Markov stated this in an interview with "Moscow-Baku."

"Ilham Aliyev spoke in Russian during negotiations with Xi Jinping, although he had the option to speak in other languages. What is the essence of this move?

- Well, first of all, Xi Jinping understands Russian, so I would say that Russian is the language that united them. Secondly, it was a clear signal of the independence of both countries, a signal to the West. In Moscow, such contacts between Baku and Beijing are viewed very positively, as they align with Moscow's strategic interests," Markov noted.
