Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated in and delivered a speech at the 51st session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul as part of his working visit to Turkiye.

Axar.az reports that according to the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the speech touched upon the political, economic, humanitarian, environmental and security challenges arising against the backdrop of increasing geopolitical tensions in the OIC geography, cooperation in combating them, as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period.

During his speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the brotherly Republic of Turkiye on its upcoming OIC chairmanship and expressed his country's readiness to support Turkiye's chairmanship process.

It was noted that Azerbaijan views the OIC chairmanship, which it will assume in 2026, as a serious historical opportunity to contribute to the solidarity and development of the Islamic world.

It was emphasized that the growing trends of Islamophobia in the world are a cause for concern, that our country strongly condemns all forms and manifestations of this threat, and supports the initiatives taken within the OIC framework to combat Islamophobia.

The current humanitarian situation in Gaza was touched upon, and the importance of taking urgent measures in this regard was noted.

It was stated that the expansion of the geography of tension in the Middle East and the military operations carried out against the Islamic Republic of Iran are a cause for concern, and that our country calls for the restoration of the diplomatic process based on the norms and principles of international law.

It was noted that our country fully supports the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict by the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, including the OIC, and the importance of the ceasefire agreement reached on May 10, 2025, was emphasized.

The current humanitarian situation in Syria was discussed, and the importance of supporting the recovery and reintegration steps in the region by the international community was noted.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also spoke in detail about the challenges that threaten regional reconstruction, construction, and peace efforts in the post-conflict period, as well as the normalization process. It was noted that the existing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Armenian constitution and the failure to abolish institutions such as the OSCE Minsk Group, which are remnants of the past conflict, prevent the signing of a peace agreement.

It was reported that Armenia has not fulfilled its obligation to ensure unhindered communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.

During the speech, it was also noted that the gross violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from the territories of present-day Armenia and the West Azerbaijan Community by this country, as well as the denial of their rights, are obstacles to sustainable peace and confidence-building.
