NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for over nine months, are set to return to Earth on Tuesday.
Axar.az reports that their extended stay was due to propulsion issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, which was deemed unfit for their return journey.
They will be transported back aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule alongside NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov.
NASA moved up the splashdown time to 5:57 PM ET on Tuesday due to favorable weather conditions. The astronauts’ unplanned prolonged mission has drawn attention and sympathy, though it is still shorter than past records for extended space missions.
