Montenegro imposes a visa for Azerbaijanis from Jan 15

An official request has been sent to Montenegro to clarify the new rules and conditions of the visa regime to be applied to Azerbaijani citizens.

Axar.az reports that Aykhan Hajizadeh, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave this information in response to a request from Operative Media.

He said that for a long time, Montenegro has unilaterally applied a visa-free regime for citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan wishing to visit this country:

"However, according to the decision of the Montenegrin government, a visa regime will be applied for Azerbaijani citizens wishing to visit Montenegro from January 15, 2026."

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this decision is related to the obligations undertaken by the Montenegrin government within the framework of the accession process to the European Union:

"Our relevant request has been addressed to the other side regarding the new rules and conditions of the visa regime for citizens of our country.

Additional information on the issue will be provided appropriately."

It should be noted that after January 15, 2026, Azerbaijani citizens will be able to visit Montenegro only on a visa basis. In order to work or engage in business activities in this country, a residence permit of at least 1 year will be required.

At the last meeting of the Montenegrin government in December, new decisions were also made regarding the visa regime. According to the decision, citizens of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the Republic of Turkiye with a valid passport can enter Montenegro without a visa, transi,t and stay in the country for up to 30 days.
