Participants of the Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders held under the slogan "World Religions for a Green Planet" within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) visited the cities of Khankendi and Shusha.
Axar.az reports that the delegation first arrived at Zafar square in Khankendi city. The special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elchin Yusubov, informed them about the city of Khankendi.
The guests then visited the city of Shusha, a symbol of the history and culture of Azerbaijan. They first went up to Jidir plain and watched the beautiful view from there. Tural Novruzov, executive director of the Shusha City State Reserve Department, informed the delegation about the Jidir plain. It was reported that in the Jidir plain of the city, which is located in the heart of the mountains, races of Karabakh braves, chevken games, Novruz and other hand festivities have been held since ancient times. Jidir plain has always been the most favorite place and resort of Shusha residents and guests visiting Shusha. The amazing view from here is fascinating.
During the 44-day Patriotic War, the heroic Azerbaijani soldiers showed great courage and climbed the steep rocks to the Jidir plain, freeing Shusha from occupation at the cost of their lives and blood. Today, Jidir plain has become a place where great events are held, as it was before the occupation.
Religious leaders prayed for the souls of those who were martyred for the liberation of Shusha.
The participants of the Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders got acquainted with the city center square of Shusha and the fortress walls, where the shot statues of the well-known figures of Azerbaijan Bulbul, Khurshidbanu Natavan and Uzeyir Hajibeyli are located. The guests were informed about the history of the city of Shusha, the situation during the occupation, and the construction works carried out in the city under the direct supervision of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. It was reported that historical buildings, mosques and monuments in the city of Shusha were subjected to Armenian vandalism during the nearly 30-year occupation. After the liberation of Shusha from occupation, large-scale restoration and construction works were started here. In addition to the construction of infrastructure, restoration of the city's true historical face, historical and cultural monuments has begun in Shusha.
