Today, November 25, marks the Day of Kalbajar City, commemorating 4 years since the region was liberated from Armenian occupying forces.
Axar.az reports that based on the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2023, November 25 will be celebrated annually as Kalbajar City Day.
The liberation of Kalbajar was made possible through the political leadership, strategic capabilities, and successful military operations of President Ilham Aliyev, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and the Azerbaijani Army during the Patriotic War.
On November 10, 2020, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a declaration following the results of the 44-day war, which stipulated that Kalbajar should be returned to Azerbaijan by November 15. However, Armenia requested an additional 10 days to withdraw its troops and illegally settled people from the region. Therefore, in consideration of the humanitarian nature of Azerbaijan and at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the deadline was extended to November 25.
It is important to remember that on April 2, 1993, Armenian terrorist-occupying forces captured Kalbajar. As a result of the occupation, 53,340 people were displaced, 55 soldiers and 511 civilians were killed, 321 people were taken captive or went missing, and thousands of residents were injured.
Currently, reconstruction and restoration work is ongoing in Kalbajar, with new infrastructure being built and the region being revived. The construction of roads and restoration of the entire infrastructure is actively progressing.
