Indian FC banned for refusing to play match in Iran

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has banned Mohun Bagan Super Giant from its club competitions until the 2027–28 season and imposed fines totalling $100,729 (about ₹91 lakh) after the Indian champions refused to travel to Iran for an AFC Champions League Two group-stage match against Sepahan SC.

Axar.az informs, citing Economic Times, the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee ruled on Wednesday that Mohun Bagan wrongfully withdrew from the 2025–26 AFC Champions League Two, breaching competition regulations once the group stage had already begun.

As a result, the club has been disqualified from the next AFC competition they qualify for, fined $50,000, and ordered to pay $50,729 as compensation for damages and losses incurred by the AFC and Sepahan SC. The club will also forfeit all participation subsidies linked to the season and must repay any amounts already received within 30 days.
