Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen and is set to travel to Madrid by private jet amid a dispute over his role in the national team.

Axar.az reports, citing Marca, that Ronaldo left Parken Stadium in a black van belonging to the Portuguese Football Federation, despite coach Jorge Jesus saying earlier that there was no problem between them and that Ronaldo would train on Wednesday.

Jesus said Ronaldo had completed gym work the previous day and was expected to train with the squad.

“I am the coach. I am the coach, I told the player that he was not going to play. I will put you on the bench. If I need you for 30 minutes, you will play; if not, you will not. No player will make me change my mind. Not him, nor anyone in football. Nor any president. Never, absolutely nobody,” Jesus said.

The dispute began during Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway, when Ronaldo started on the bench and remained unused throughout the match despite warming up in the second half.

Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proenca traveled to Copenhagen on Wednesday to meet Ronaldo and Jesus amid the situation.

Marca said Ronaldo’s departure comes with two Nations League matches still remaining during the international break and could mark the end of his involvement in the current camp.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on X that Ronaldo confirmed his departure in a statement following a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proenca.

“After the National Team coach’s press conference, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the National Team training camp,” Ronaldo said.

“In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself.”

“Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates,” he added.

Portugal have already played two matches in the Nations League. Ronaldo played 67 minutes against Wales in a 1–0 victory but did not register a goal or assist. He did not play at all in the 2–1 match against Norway.
