With the order of Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Germany, the German version of the film "On Distant Shores" (1958) has been digitized and restored in Berlin, significantly improving the film's image and sound quality.

Axar.az reports that the restored version of the film was screened at the famous "Urania" Science Center cinema in Berlin, organized by the embassy. The screening was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II.

The event was attended by representatives of German state institutions, ambassadors from various countries, scientists and cultural figures, film scholars, journalists, as well as members of Azerbaijani, Turkish, and other friendly communities living in Germany.

In his speech, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany, Nasimi Aghayev, emphasized that the hero of the film "On Distant Shores," partisan Mehdi Huseynzade, reflects the determination, selflessness, and unwavering will of his native land, Azerbaijan. He noted that, in addition to being a courageous fighter, Huseynzade is a symbol of international solidarity and a hero who fought against fascism far from his homeland, giving his life for these ideals.

The ambassador spoke about Azerbaijan's significant contributions to the historic victory over fascism, stating that approximately 700,000 Azerbaijanis were sent to war, with more than 300,000 of them losing their lives. Over 170,000 soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals, including 130 individuals who were named "Heroes of the Soviet Union." It was noted that the national infantry divisions made up of Azerbaijani draftees and volunteers fought a noble path from the Caucasus to Berlin. N. Aghayev specifically mentioned that Azerbaijan participated in the fight against fascism not only with human resources but also with its rich energy reserves, playing a decisive role in achieving victory.

The film was met with great interest by the audience. Germany's prestigious "Berliner Zeitung" newspaper published an extensive article about the event, informing readers about the film and Azerbaijan's contributions to the victory. "TV Berlin" television channel, as well as "Stimme der Hauptstadt," also broadcast detailed reports about the event.

It should be noted that the film "On Distant Shores" was dubbed into German by Germany's DEFA studio in 1959 and was screened in Berlin under the title "Damals in Triest." As a result of the embassy's work with the DEFA studio and archives, the German-language version of the film was restored in high quality by a company specializing in the restoration of classic films in Berlin.
