In September 2023, Mossad operatives carried out a high-risk mission in Beirut’s Dahieh district, infiltrating Hezbollah’s stronghold under heavy bombardment to plant advanced guidance devices above an underground bunker.
Axar.az, citing Ynet, reports that the devices enabled Israeli jets to carry out a precision strike that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iran’s Quds Force commander in Lebanon Abbas Nilforoushan, and Hezbollah commander Ali Karaki, along with about 300 fighters.
The strike marked the collapse of Hezbollah’s central command. Israel had prepared the technology in advance, coordinating between Mossad, Unit 8200, the Air Force, and defense industries. The decision to assassinate Nasrallah came after months of debate inside Israel’s leadership and amid U.S. pressure to avoid escalation.
