On September 24, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the Republic of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Souza in New York.

Axar.az reports that the President of Portugal, first of all, congratulated the head of state on the achievements made in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the advancement of the peace agenda, witnessed by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the congratulations. Noting that the Summit held in Washington was of historical importance, the head of state stated that Azerbaijan is the initiator of the peace agenda in the region and stressed that our country will continue its efforts to strengthen peace in the region.

The importance of the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal in various fields, the continuation of political consultations and mutual visits of delegations, was noted at the meeting, and issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations were touched upon.
