The UN Security Council (UNSC) has refused to extend for six months the validity of Resolution 2231, which was proposed by Russia and China and supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program.

Axar.az reports that Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria voted in favor of the document. Nine countries, including France, the United States, and the United Kingdom, voted against it, while the Republic of Korea and Guyana abstained.

It should be noted that for a draft resolution to be adopted by the UN Security Council, it must be supported by nine members, and none of the five permanent members (the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France) may vote against it.
