The recent unrest in Georgia was provoked from outside with the aim of subordinating the republic to the will of the West with the Maidan scenario.
Axar.az reports that these words were said by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a briefing.
“The blatant interference of well-known Western actors in the internal affairs of Georgia is of serious concern. Opposition representatives, supported by the EU and the Kyiv regime and associated with the United National Movement of Mikheil Saakashvili, a Ukrainian citizen imprisoned in Georgia, have actively applied all the old patterns tested in different parts of the world and openly called for the overthrow of the legitimate government,” she noted.
Zakharova said that the obvious goal of this ultimately unsuccessful provocation is to implement the Maidan scenario in Georgia, establish a puppet government there, and completely subordinate the republic to the will of the West:
“The goal of all this is to use Georgia for new adventures against our country and destabilize the situation on Russia’s southern borders. In short, the idea is one: to turn Georgia into a tool in the hands of others to be used in geopolitical confrontation. Meanwhile, those behind these color revolutions, Maidans, and coup attempts completely disregard the fundamental interests of the Georgian people with malice and indifference.
We reaffirm our consistent commitment to peaceful, equal, and mutually beneficial relations with all countries of the South Caucasus and oppose the region’s transformation into another arena of sharp confrontation.”
