Despite the federal government shutdown, I have instructed officials at the Department of Defense to pay military personnel next week.
Axar.az reports that the U.S. President Donald Trump stated this.
“I am using my authority as Commander-in-Chief to instruct our Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds on October 15 to pay our troops. We have allocated funds for this purpose, and Hegseth will use them to pay the salaries of our military personnel,” Trump said.
According to NBC News, officials in the Trump administration and lawmakers on both sides have expressed concern that troops might not receive their pay on October 15 due to the 10-day ongoing shutdown.
“The Office of Management and Budget has informed Congress of its intention to use research and development funds to pay military personnel,” the outlet reported.
President Trump also criticized Democrats for the ongoing shutdown on his Truth Social page:
“If nothing is done, our brave soldiers will rightfully not receive their pay on October 15 because of ‘leader’ Chuck Schumer and the Democrats,” he wrote.
The shutdown in the U.S. was declared on October 1 due to disagreements with the Democratic Party over the federal budget.
