Strong winds in the Kucukcekmece anchorage area on Istanbul’s Florya coast caused the anchor chain of the tanker Kalbajar to get caught on the rudder of the Turkish-flagged tanker Alatepe.
Axar.az reports, citing ASCO, the relevant authorities were immediately notified.
Following standard procedures, the port inspection team was dispatched to the site.
Technical work is currently underway on both vessels, with efforts focused on safely freeing the anchor chain.
There was no cargo on board at the time, and the situation is under control. The safety of the crew is not at risk.

The response operation following the incident involving the Kelbajar tanker in Istanbul’s Kucukcekmece anchorage area has been successfully completed.
According to ASCO, the tanker’s anchor chain became entangled with the propeller of the nearby Alatepe tanker due to unfavorable weather conditions. The situation was resolved without the need for outside rescue assistance.
The Kalbajar’s crew restarted the vessel’s engine, safely maneuvered it out of shallow waters, and guided it into deeper waters. No damage was reported, and there was no spill or harm to the marine environment.
The tanker is now fully operational and awaiting instructions for its next voyage.
