Rapid changes in the smartphone world are causing popular apps to say goodbye to older devices.

Axar.az reports that in recent years, many apps have stopped supporting older phones due to update and security requirements, and WhatsApp is being added to this list again.

Starting January 1, 2026, WhatsApp will stop supporting some older models on both Android and iOS. WhatsApp will not open on these phones, and basic functions such as sending and receiving messages will not be available.

The 20 phone models that will stop supporting WhatsApp are: iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S3 & S4 & S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 & Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Ace 3, Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Samsung Galaxy Trend, Samsung Galaxy J2, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z3, Huawei Ascend Mate, Huawei Ascend G740, Huawei Ascend D2, LG Optimus L3 II, LG Optimus L5 II, LG Optimus F5, LG Optimus L7 II.
