Venezuela releases prisoners after U.S. operation

More than 600 prisoners have been released in Venezuela.

Axar.az reports that the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced this.

Rodríguez said that since December, 626 inmates have been freed, and she intends to ask the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to verify the figure.

According to human rights organizations, however, the number of confirmed political prisoners released is much lower than the interim government’s claims.

It should be noted that on January 3, following a U.S. operation in Caracas, the government promised to release hundreds of opponents of Nicolás Maduro who were held in prisons.
