Ischinger: Russia threat to NATO could grow after the war

If the war in Ukraine ends, the threat from Russia to NATO's eastern flank could grow even stronger.

Axar.az reports that these words were spoken by German diplomat and head of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger.

Ischinger added that the Russians are currently focused on fighting in Ukraine, where they are losing thousands of soldiers per week:

"The situation will change after a ceasefire is achieved in Ukraine. In this case, Vladimir Putin will be able to continue rearming in peacetime, and the threat to NATO countries on the eastern flank will increase."

He said that a ceasefire in Ukraine would also pose a greater threat to Germany.

Ischinger believes that a future ceasefire should be accompanied by a significant reduction in Russia's military presence in the west, but Moscow is unlikely to agree to this.
