Macron warns of renewed US clashes, urges EU to reform

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that Europe should prepare for renewed clashes with the United States, urging the EU to use the recent “Greenland moment” as a catalyst for long-delayed economic reforms and stronger strategic autonomy, Reuters reported.

Axar.az reports that he cautioned against assuming that a temporary easing of tensions with Washington signals a lasting change.

Macron accused the Trump administration of being openly hostile to Europe and seeking to weaken the EU, warning that new disputes could soon emerge over digital regulation and potential US tariffs if the bloc enforces its Digital Services Act. He also renewed calls for common EU borrowing, including eurobonds, to boost investment and reduce reliance on the US dollar.

EU leaders are set to discuss economic and geopolitical resilience at a Brussels summit this week.
