Trump, Netanyahu agree to increase pressure on Iranian oil

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed at a White House meeting to intensify economic pressure on Iran, particularly targeting Iranian oil exports to China, Axios reported.

Axar.az reports that more than 80% of Iran’s oil exports go to China. U.S. officials believe reducing those purchases would significantly increase pressure on Tehran and potentially push it to make concessions in nuclear negotiations.

The move comes as part of Trump’s renewed “maximum pressure” campaign, which will run alongside nuclear talks and a U.S. military buildup in the Middle East in case diplomacy fails. A recent executive order allows the administration to impose tariffs of up to 25% on countries that conduct business with Iran — a measure that could directly impact China.

However, imposing tariffs on China risks escalating already tense U.S.-China relations and could complicate efforts to secure rare earth supplies and preserve a planned summit in Beijing.
