Former Ukrainian minister detained trying to leave country

Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has detained a former energy minister while he was attempting to leave the country, authorities said Sunday, citing Reuters.

Axar.az reports that the arrest is part of the so-called “Midas case,” a major investigation into corruption in Ukraine’s energy sector.

NABU did not publicly name the former minister but said initial investigative actions are underway.

The scandal centers on alleged kickbacks involving contractors hired to protect critical energy infrastructure during Russia’s ongoing war.

Investigators previously said around $100 million was siphoned off through state-owned companies, including Energoatom, which operates Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
