UN independent human rights experts say the large-scale release of documents known as the “Epstein Files” reveals disturbing and credible evidence of what may have been a global criminal enterprise involving systematic sexual abuse, trafficking, and exploitation of women and girls, citing UN News.
Axar.az reports tha the experts warned that the alleged acts could amount to some of the gravest crimes under international law, potentially meeting the legal threshold for crimes against humanity. Rеported conduct includes sexual slavery, trafficking, reproductive violence, torture, enforced disappearance, and femicide — if proven to be part of a widespread or systematic attack against civilians.
The disclosure follows the Epstein Files Transparency Act, after which the U.S. Department of Justice released millions of pages of material, videos, and images. The case centers on Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges, and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Experts called for independent, thorough, and impartial investigations at national and international levels, stressing that resignations are not a substitute for criminal prosecution. They also criticized serious errors in the document release process that exposed sensitive victim information, warning that privacy failures could cause further harm.
Their message was unequivocal: governments must act decisively, and no individual — regardless of wealth or influence — should be above the law.
