A shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in the United States left one person dead and two others injured on Thursday.
Axar.az reports, citing NBC, the gunman, Mohammed Bailor Jalloh, 36, from Sterling, Virginia, was also killed. Jalloh had a prior conviction for attempting to provide material support to ISIS and was released from prison in 2024 after serving an 11-year sentence.
The attack occurred in Constant Hall, targeting an ROTC class. Authorities, including Old Dominion University Police, Norfolk Police, and the FBI, responded immediately. FBI Director Kash Patel said the shooting is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism, with the Joint Terrorism Task Force fully engaged.
University officials confirmed that one of the injured victims later died, while the other two are in stable condition. The shooter was subdued and killed thanks to intervention by students and security personnel.
All classes were canceled, and the campus was secured. Local authorities, including Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, are monitoring the situation. Emergency and federal agencies, including the ATF, are assisting in the investigation.
Old Dominion University has about 24,000 students, including a large proportion of military-affiliated students, and is located near Naval Station Norfolk.
