Ankara launches probe into CHP leader Ozgur Ozel

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into CHP leader Ozgur Ozel following his remarks at a rally in Kushadasi.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, the prosecutor’s office determined that Ozel’s statements may constitute a violation of Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code, which covers insulting the president, and has therefore initiated formal proceedings against him.

It is also noted that Ozel previously faced a separate investigation over allegations of insulting judges in court.
