Trump threatens Iran energy sites if Hormuz not reopened

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Washington will target Iran’s key energy infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately reopened and a deal is not reached soon, as the conflict enters its fifth week.

Axar.az reports, citing CNBC, in remarks posted Monday, Trump said the United States is engaged in “serious discussions with a new, and more reasonable, regime to end our military operations in Iran,” adding that progress has been made.

He cautioned, however, that failure to secure an agreement would trigger a major escalation.

“If for any reason a deal is not shortly reached… and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘open for business,’ we will… completely obliterate all of their electric generating plants, oil wells and Kharg Island,” Trump said.

Kharg Island, a critical hub handling the majority of Iran’s crude exports, remains central to the dispute.

The warning comes amid ongoing disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.
