Araghchi warns UN of nuclear risk after strikes on Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, members of the UN Security Council, and the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Axar.az reports, citing IRNA, in the letter, Araghchi warned that the strikes on nuclear sites under IAEA safeguards, particularly the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, could lead to serious radioactive contamination with severe humanitarian and environmental consequences.

He described the attacks as illegal and criticized international bodies, including the UN Security Council and the IAEA, for failing to take effective measures or condemn the actions, adding that such inaction has emboldened further strikes.

Araghchi also listed several recent attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, including sites in Natanz, Khondab, and Bushehr, emphasizing that repeated strikes near an active nuclear plant create an unacceptable risk of radiological disaster.

It should be noted that earlier today, a projectile fell near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in the death of one of the facility’s security personnel.
