Spain’s Chargé d’Affaires summoned by Israel

Spain’s chargé d’affaires in Tel Aviv has been summoned for a reprimand.

Axar.az reports, the Israeli Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as “appalling antisemitic hatred” and said the incident was the result of what it called systemic incitement by the Spanish government. It also criticized Madrid for remaining silent.

The move followed the burning of an effigy of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during an annual tradition in the Malaga area of Spain known as “burning evildoers,” a custom that has been held since the 1940s.
