A 7.4-magnitude earthquake has struck off the northeastern coast of Japan, with a tsunami warning issued shortly after.

Axar.az informs, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency, that the epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of around 10 kilometers.

Authorities issued tsunami warnings of up to 3 meters for the prefectures of Iwate Prefecture, Aomori Prefecture, and Hokkaido.

The earthquake was classified as “upper five” on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, indicating a level at which people may find it difficult to move and damage to structures is possible, including the collapse of unreinforced concrete walls.
