Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned an incident in which an Israeli soldier damaged a Jesus statue in southern Lebanon.

Axar.az reports in a statement on X, Netanyahu said he was “stunned and saddened” by the incident, which he condemned “in the strongest terms.”

“Yesterday, like the overwhelming majority of Israelis, I was stunned and saddened to learn that an IDF soldier damaged a Catholic religious icon in southern Lebanon. I condemn the act in the strongest terms,” Netanyahu wrote.

He added that military authorities are conducting a criminal probe of the matter and will take appropriately harsh disciplinary action against the offender.
