Zelensky seeks talks with Magyar over seized funds

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said he intends to discuss the return of seized Oschadbank assets with Peter Magyar, whose political bloc emerged victorious in Hungary’s parliamentary elections.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, Zelensky said Kyiv is seeking the recovery of funds confiscated by the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“They took some of our money there. We will now speak with Magyar. I think they should return it. Orban simply stole this money,” Zelensky said.

It should be noted that on March 5, seven Ukrainians suspected of money laundering were detained in Hungary. Later, the Hungarian parliament adopted a bill providing for the freezing of confiscated funds from Ukraine’s Oschadbank. On March 12, Budapest agreed to return vehicles carrying confiscated cash to Ukraine, but the confiscated cash and gold remained in Hungary.
