Trump invites Xi to White House visit in September

U.S. President Donald Trump has formally invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the White House in September.

Axar.az reports that Trump extended the invitation during a state banquet in Beijing on Thursday.

“Thank you again, President Xi, for this beautiful welcome, and tonight, it is my honor to extend an invitation to you, Madam Peng, to visit us at the White House this September 24, and we look forward to it,” Trump said.

Xi, in remarks at the banquet, emphasized the importance of U.S.-China relations, saying both sides agree it is “the most important bilateral relationship in the world” and urging cooperation.

“We must make it work and not mess it up,” Xi said.

The invitation followed more than two hours of bilateral talks between the two leaders, during which the White House said they discussed trade, business, the Iran war, and the Strait of Hormuz.
