Merz, Trump discuss Ukraine and Iran in phone call

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump while Trump was returning from China.

Axar.az reports that Merz shared details of the conversation on his X account.

The two leaders agreed that Iran must return to the negotiating table, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

They also discussed efforts toward a peaceful resolution in Ukraine and coordinated their positions ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara. Merz emphasized that the United States and Germany remain strong partners within NATO.
