Pakistan deploys jets and 8,000 troops to Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has deployed a major military contingent to Saudi Arabia, including fighter jets, air defence systems, and thousands of troops, amid the ongoing Iran war and rising regional tensions.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, the deployment includes around 8,000 personnel, a squadron of roughly 16 JF-17 fighter jets, drones, and a Chinese-made HQ-9 air defence system.

Sources said the forces are intended to support Saudi Arabia under a mutual defence agreement, with equipment operated by Pakistani personnel and financed by Riyadh.

According to officials cited in the report, “the deployment includes around 8,000 troops, with a pledge to send more if needed, as well as a Chinese HQ-9 air defence system,” reflecting what sources described as a combat-capable reinforcement rather than a symbolic mission.

The agreement is said to be based on a confidential defence pact under which both countries may come to each other’s defence in the event of an attack. One source noted the arrangement could allow for a significantly larger Pakistani presence in the kingdom if required.

Pakistan’s government and military, as well as Saudi officials, have not publicly commented on the deployment. The move comes as Pakistan continues to play a mediating role in regional tensions linked to the Iran conflict, even as it deepens security cooperation with Gulf allies.
