The chargé d’affaires of Israel, Daniela Grudsky Ekstein, has been summoned to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Axar.az reports, citing The Independent, that the move comes amid the United Kingdom’s strong condemnation of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s conduct, including the release of an “inflammatory” video showing detainees and his mockery of participants in the “Global Sumud Flotilla” aid mission.
According to the statement, such behavior violates the most basic standards of respect and human dignity. The Foreign Office also expressed concern over the detention conditions shown in the footage, which reportedly depicted a makeshift holding area in Ashdod, and demanded explanations from the Israeli authorities.
It further stressed that the flotilla’s attempt to deliver humanitarian aid underscores the severity of the situation in the Gaza Strip, adding that Israel should ensure the safe and large-scale delivery of aid via land routes.
The UK government also confirmed it is in contact with the families of several British nationals involved in the mission and is working to help them return home, while remaining ready to provide consular assistance.
