Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation from the Trump administration, citing her husband’s recent diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer.
Axar.az reports, citing Fox News, according to her resignation letter, Gabbard said she would step down effective June 30, 2026, after informing President Donald Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office.
“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” she wrote. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”
Gabbard said her husband faces “major challenges in the coming weeks and months,” adding that she must step away from public service to support him.
“At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she wrote.
In her letter, Gabbard also reflected on her tenure leading the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, saying she had made progress on transparency and reforms within the intelligence community.
“I have made significant progress at the ODNI — advancing unprecedented transparency and restoring integrity to the intelligence community,” she said, adding that she was committed to ensuring a smooth transition.
Gabbard also thanked the president for the opportunity to serve, writing: “It has been a profound honor to serve the American people as DNI.”
Her resignation marks the end of a tenure in which she oversaw major restructuring efforts within the intelligence community, including declassification initiatives and internal reforms.
