Syria detains a former general of the Al Assad regime

Syrian Internal Security forces arrested Major General Mohammed Mohsen Nayouf in Hama province following a targeted operation carried out after extensive monitoring and investigation.

Axar.az informs, citing Syrian Arab News Agency, a security source said Nayouf held several senior positions in the military under the deposed regime and was detained by personnel from the Salamiyah Security Directorate in Hama.

The arrest is part of a broader effort by the Interior Ministry and relevant authorities to pursue individuals accused of involvement in crimes and violations committed during the rule of the deposed regime, in line with objectives related to accountability, transitional justice and the rights of victims and their families.

The announcement came hours after the Interior Ministry said it had arrested Mohammad Imad Mahrez, identified as a former guard at Saydnaya prison under the deposed regime, marking the second such operation disclosed on Friday.

It should be noted that Nayouf held several key military positions during Assad’s rule, including chief of staff of the Syrian army’s 3rd Corps, the 18th Tank Division, and the 11th Division.
