A telephone conversation has taken place between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Axar.az reports, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry, by instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lavrov officially informed the American side that, in response to continued “terrorist attacks” by the Kyiv regime against civilian population and civilian infrastructure on Russian territory, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are beginning systematic and sequential strikes on facilities in Kyiv used for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as on relevant decision-making centers.
Lavrov drew attention to the Russian Foreign Ministry's May 25 statement, which recommended that the United States, along with other countries maintaining representation in Kyiv, ensure the evacuation of their diplomatic staff and other citizens from the Ukrainian capital.
The minister also recalled agreements reached at the highest level at the initiative of the United States in Anchorage in August 2025 regarding the Ukrainian conflict, expressing regret that pressure from European elites and the Kyiv authorities is undermining these arrangements, which were intended to pave the way toward a sustainable long-term settlement based on a balance of interests.
The two foreign ministers also exchanged assessments of diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and discussed the situation surrounding Cuba.
Lavrov and Rubio confirmed their mutual intention, despite known differences, to intensify efforts to normalize the functioning conditions of diplomatic missions of Russia and the United States on each other’s territory.
