US shifts alliance strategy toward interests

The United States is seeking to reshape its alliances on the basis of interests rather than values.

Axar.az reports that Elbridge Colby, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy, made the comments while referring to remarks by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Colby wrote on his X account that "Our partners in Asia have long understood that the bedrock of a durable partnership is not based on idealistic shared values, but on the concrete alignment of national interests.”

It should be noted that during a speech at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, Hegseth stated that the United States aims to prioritize cooperation with “model allies” — countries willing to defend their own national interests.
