U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the attack on Beirut “should not have happened,” calling for all sides to de-escalate amid ongoing efforts toward a regional peace deal with Iran.
Axar.az reports that Trump made the remarks on his Truth Social account.
“This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran,” he wrote.
Trump added that Israel has the right to defend itself but said the strike was carried out in response to a “very small and meaningless” attack in which “nobody was hurt, injured, or killed.”
“We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down,” he said.
He further urged that there should be no more Israeli strikes anywhere in Lebanon.
"There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel," he added.
He concluded by saying the situation could mark the beginning of a broader peace process: “Let’s not blow it!”
It should be noted that earlier today the Israeli military carried out strikes on a Hezbollah office in Beirut.
