Armed men attack vessel in Gulf of Aden

Unknown armed men in two small boats opened fire on a vessel in the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen.

Axar.az reports that the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on its X account that the incident occurred approximately 105 nautical miles northeast of Aden.

The vessel was approached to within four meters by two skiffs carrying an unknown number of armed individuals. The ship's security team responded by returning fire after the attackers opened fire.

According to UKMTO, the suspect boats later broke off the attack and moved more than four nautical miles away from the vessel. All crew members were reported safe.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while vessels transiting the area have been advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.

It should be noted that a commercial vessel was also attacked with a grenade launcher off the Yemeni coast on June 15.
