Rutte: NATO not involved in EU-Russia contacts

NATO is aware of the European Union's attempts to establish diplomatic contacts with Russia, but is not involved in the process.

Axar.az reports that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte made the remarks ahead of a meeting of NATO defense ministers.

He described the issue as an internal European discussion.

“Of course, this discussion is taking place within the EU. I fully respect it and understand why it is happening. But it is purely a European discussion. NATO is not involved in it in any way, although I am closely monitoring the process and we keep each other informed,” he said.
