Iran demands guarantee on Lebanon ceasefire before US talks

Iran has asked for guarantees that hostilities in Lebanon will end before it resumes talks with the US in Switzerland.

Axar.az informs that a diplomat with knowledge of the matter told CNN.

“The Iranians have asked for guarantees that hostilities in Lebanon will end, as outlined in the signed agreement,” the diplomat said, adding that “mediators are currently working to resolve the issue.”

The source described the planned talks as now “temporarily postponed following the Israeli strikes in Lebanon” without saying when mediators expect a resumption.

It should be noted that the Iranian delegation postponed a planned trip to Switzerland to begin the first round of 60-day talks due to continued Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon.

A US–Iran agreement had been expected to be signed in Switzerland on June 19.
