Romania risks losing €4.5bn in EU recovery funds

Romania could lose more than €4.5 billion in funding from the European Union’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) if Parliament fails to approve six key reform laws by the end of August, with the ongoing political crisis threatening to derail the legislative process.

Axar.az reports, citing Romania Journal, that an extraordinary parliamentary session is expected to be scheduled later this month to debate the remaining reform package. However, for the government-backed bills to pass, political parties from the former governing coalition will first need to reach a consensus—something that has so far proved elusive.
