Magyar accuses ex-minster of 'serving foreign interests'

Former Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has left politics to take a senior executive position at Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD.

Axar.az reports that Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar commented on the move in a post on X, claiming Szijjarto had "long been accused of serving foreign interests."

"The only difference is that, from now on, Hungarian taxpayers will no longer be paying Peter Szijjarto for the same 'work' — his actual employer will," he said.

Magyar also alleged that Szijjarto was joining "a Chinese company for which he previously secured substantial Hungarian state subsidies," suggesting his new role raises questions about whose interests he had been serving while overseeing major battery and automotive investments in Hungary.
