Tokayev, Xi hold talks in Shanghai

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Shanghai, reaffirming Astana's commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Beijing.

Axar.az reports, citing Akorda, that Tokayev congratulated Xi on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to support China's international initiatives.

The two leaders also focused on trade and economic cooperation. China remains Kazakhstan's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $49 billion last year.

China has invested $30 billion in Kazakhstan's economy, while more than 8,500 Chinese companies currently operate in the country. The sides noted ongoing joint projects in industry, energy, gas chemicals, engineering and agriculture.
